I've been wondering. How cheap can a cheap business start-up cost really cost in Brunei? I hope you get the question. Story is, Faris, Daus, Nawi and me are planning to join this business competition called the LiveWIRE Brunei Business Awards, organised by Brunei SHELL and HSBC. The winning prizes for our category would be B$1,000.00 for the winner and of course certificates! For runner-ups, they get $500.00.
Well, I was wondering if I could go solo and perhaps winning, which I presume would be really hard and not to forget unlikely, but what if I could go with the business plan (what we're supposed to create in LiveWIRE) that would win me the B$1,000.00 and use the money obtained as well as the ready plan to start a REAL business in Brunei? Assuming the business would go well, wouldn't that ensure me at least some amount of income. Wouldn't that be great for a student? Not to mention USEFUL for someone like me, i.e. a big money spender?
On a VERY exaggerative notion: What if this income that I could earn reaches up to B$1000 or perhaps B$5000? Then maybe I could realize my dream of not having to spend more years of further education plus examinations (ugh) and live my life as I want through managing businesses and further developing them.
I might sound a little too ambitious, of course I am. But hey, dreaming is good and at least I've got some economics knowledge to help me. HAHA. Plus, I haven't really thought of any good product or service to begin with.... Though something that's web-based would be relatively cheap, I think.
Some of you people out there might say doing business in Brunei is very hard, or it won't guarantee me a stable income due to the weak (should I say?) consumers market. But you know, there are already people out there doing good businesses earning themselves thousands and thousands dollars. Not that I can really speak of any, but I know there are.
Anyway, Brunei really needs a strong private sector and this could be hard because of the popular mindset that working in the public sector is SO much better than working in the private sector. It is true though, but obviously we need smart and creative people out there (I'm not saying I'm one) to become good players in the Bruneian market.
Maybe I could be one. I HOPE I could be one. And I think I'd prefer to be self-employed.
