Last night was my first time watching football at the National Stadium in many years! I’m not even sure if I’ve ever did (during the Tebuan/Tabuan era); but at least I remember the “sitting in front of the TV with cousins watching Brunei belawan”.
Anyway, DPMM FC won 2 – 1 against Woodlands FC!!!
The match wasn’t as exciting as I thought—it was fun—but the audience was… entah, BANYAK and SEMANGAT. Tapikan, inda be-filter wah audience-nya ah. Brunei tah banar, HAHAH. And I’m serious, kesian wah the Woodlands FC players, especially the goalkeeper! The worst thing that probably happened to the GK (besides the fact that there were 2 goals conceded) was when he slipped (it rained) and the audience started boo-ing him, heavily. Banar, and he raised his two arms macam, “Fine fineee, I slipped, so what?” Then, of course, there were many other moments of excessive boo-ings.
That’s the GK in black. I think ani masa ia injured for a while. Even masa ani the audience boo.
I should touch on the fact too that a portion of the Bruneian audience was racist! So what that the linesman’s Indian?
Oh, not to forget too: One of the Woodlands FC players was ‘one-armed’—as in amputated—not that he showed signs of suffering or that it actually affected his play or something, tapi kesian jua tu.
Foreigners tell us that one of the most special things about Brunei is the “friendliness” of our people. I think that that’s something precious we should always preserve (given how the government’s trying to push up its tourism efforts).
Sure, it’s football and people, or fans, can get a little too excited or passionate, tapi mesti jua ada sportsmanship.
I’m not sure which one of the DPMM FC players it was, but he was probably the best example of a sportsman on the field: He seemed like the friendliest to the Singaporeans; macam he stood by the Woodlanders masa fouls or injuries and he helped the Woodlanders up kalau ada yang limpang-limpang on the ground.
And ada orang cakap the referee macam ‘bebayar’. NOT ME.
The funniest part of the match was probably Woodlands FC’s only goal, which they scored just after 3 minutes the match started. Funny pasal the DPMM FC punya keeper.
That funniest part of the match = Disgrace (maybe) for the DPMM FC fans = My personal highlight of the match.
HAHAHAH nadawah.
And just in case you’re curious: Yes it rained! The heaviest part was masa half-time for about… 20 minutes? Otherwise, it was drizzling.
Players from both teams walking side by side.
