Somewhere Over The Rainbow

4 more days until my Physics P2, and I'm yet to find myself studying hard for it. Though recent efforts have been well enough, I think, but surely NOT enough especially when you're aiming for an A.


I was looking up for Jason Castro's online music videos on YouTube, particularly a video of his Somewhere Over The Rainbow song he performed during American Idol, and I did find one, which was good, 'cause I think that his take on that song was REALLY awesome:



Besides that, I was curious to find out who the original performer was. Turns out that he was this Hawaiian guy named Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He was also called Bruddah IZ. The song was part of his medley of Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What Wonderful World (video below). Comments on the video were positive, and I thought about it: Although I still think that Jason Castro's take on the song is slightly more enjoyable, what made Braddah IZ's original take better was the way he performed the song and how, in many ways, his love was expressed through his music and how many people were touched by his music and voice. That's what the many people agreed on, anyway.



The video tells viewers a brief history about Bruddah IZ and I was moved so much (kinda) that I felt that I had to look up info about him on Wiki:
"Kamakawiwo`ole was nicknamed "The Gentle Giant" by his admirers. He was described as always cheerful and positive, and he was best known for his love of the land and of the people of Hawaiʻi. Throughout the later part of his life, Iz was obese and at one point carried 758 pounds (344 kg) on his 6 feet 2 inches (1.9 m) frame. He endured several hospitalizations and died of weight-related respiratory illness on June 26, 1997 at 12:18 am at the age of 38."

Story's kinda heart-touching, and I had to share it with Fadhil who was chatting with me, haha:
